During my 13 years at Citigroup I spent two years as the co-chair of a Committee for the Retention and Development of Women within the organisation. Even though we launched several fantastic initiatives (one of which won the Corporate Award for Women of the Future in 2006), we didn’t make a dent in the exodus of talented women leaving the organisation at mid career levels. This observation, and my own personal experiences, made me realise that things for women in traditional workplaces will only change when there is a wholesale cultural shift driven from the top of the organisations. Your Loss is a collaboration with Christina Ioannidis of Aquitude with whom I do consulting work. It’s a wake-up call for any senior manager who thinks organisations can ride out the loss of top women in their business.
